About us

PHABRIX Limited Headquarters

PHABRIX Limited has established itself as a world-wide leader of innovative cost effective test and measurement instruments since it was formed in 2005. PHABRIX’s success and mainstream acceptance in the broadcast industry has resulted in over 8 awards for technical excellence including the coveted IABM Peter Wayne award for design and innovation in 2008 and several associated ‘best practice’ business awards.

Operating from its purpose built 1,000 sq metre headquarters in the United Kingdom based in Thatcham, England, PHABRIX employs a dedicated team of software engineers and manufacturing personnel to create its British made products.

The PHABRIX brand is synonymous with innovative broadcast products and exceptional value. The company continues to lead by providing solutions throughout the broadcast infrastructures particularly focussed on the transition from SD-SDI to HD-SDI and the new 3G-SDI requirements.

The company also provides comprehensive support services to its partners and valued customer base with both telephone and warranty back up.

Key to the success of PHABRIX have been the PHABRIX Sx test and measurement hand held product line consisting of the PHABRIX SxA with AES audio support, PHABRIX SxD dual link and the PHABRIX SxE with automated eye and jitter measurements. These innovative ground breaking portable instruments each provide a combined generator, analyser and monitoring solution with support for SD-SDI, HD-SDI and 3G-SDI as standard.

The PHABRIX SxA established itself in 2008 as the world's first multi format portable video test signal generator, monitor and analyser plus AES audio testing and monitoring. It has continued to be a huge success with broadcast engineers with its unique small profile, rugged aluminium construction and focussed broadcast toolset. The size of the instrument at just 225 x 92x 42mm allows an engineer to carry the unit in one hand when accessing engineering bays and confined spaces within OB trucks or simply the ease of portability when moving between broadcast sites.

Offering a complete toolset for both SDI video and audio analysis and generation including waveform, vectorscope, 16 channel audio metering, video timing, full generation with over 32 patterns including moving zone plates and comprehensive logging, each of the on board instruments are shown clearly on the full colour bright best-in-class TFT integrated display. Easy to use ergonomics designed into the instruments set them apart from other solutions with a selection of screens colour coded for navigation. The 8 control buttons are used to select on screen menus. A separate thumb switch is provided for ease of selection where further input is required. Audio can be monitored through both the integral speaker and stereo headphone socket.

Each instrument can be controlled remotely by TCP/IP which also provides direct communication to allow screen dumps and engineer’s print reports. All settings can be saved to create a comprehensive library of user defined memories recalled instantly. The easily replaced internal lithium polymer rechargeable battery provides 2-3 hours of un-tethered operation.

The PHABRIX range of products each benefit from state-of-the art electronics with FPGA design allowing users to upgrade their investment via an open network. Recent innovations have included ancillary status display and full support for Dolby generation and analysis all upgraded remotely via the web support with access to the appropriate option key code.

PHABRIX’s most recent technological success was the release of the PHABRIX SxE with its ability to provide broadcast engineers with automated eye and jitter measurements. With the provision of measurements for rise/fall time, delta, overshoot and undershoot, alignment and timing thermometers, the PHABRIX SxE represents exceptional value with a sophisticated toolset calibrated to SMPTE standards. An additional option adds further enhancements to provide filtering and histograms with a separate jitter screen.

The PHABRIX SxD released in 2010 provides dual link support and with over 350 SMPTE formats supported in both the generating and analysing toolsets. It remains the world’s most comprehensive multi format testing hand held platform and can be found in broadcast manufacturing environments, D cinema and post production studios.

Established as the de facto hand held portable broadcast testing solution in many of the world’s largest broadcasters, PHABRIX has continued to innovate with the recent release of a new series of rack mount products - the PHABRIX Rx range.

Building on the success of the quality and brand recognition associated with its hand held instruments the new PHABRIX rack mount products utilize a modular system allowing customization of each system for a range of monitoring requirements. Modules available include support for both video, audio and data environments and can be configured to provide a staggering simultaneous 16 channel monitoring system. Modules include generators, analysers, AES audio, Dolby and ASI support and once fitted into the PHABRIX rack mount chassis each will automatically configure for SD, HD or 3G monitoring. The PHABRIX Rx control chassis employs a high speed interface to control multiple modules without any loss of performance due to the modules having independent FPGA’s for processing.

Each of the rack mount range has an integrated HDMI/SDI output for the provision of instruments on a full HD supported remote screen with instruments displayed per channel available from both preset control or accessed via user screen layout customisation. The Rx range of products provide broadcast stations and system integrators with a one stop high performance solution for all aspects of broadcast monitoring with up to 16 simultaneous channels supporting full instrumentation on each channel. Designed for use in engineering bays, OB facilities, editing suites and QC environments, the Rx range represents exceptional value for money. The more modules added to the system, the more cost effective the solution becomes. The PHABRIX Rx instruments also have optical support as standard along with full TCP/IP remote control.

There are three products that currently form the PHABRIX Rx rack mount range; the Rx2000, the Rx1000 and the Rx500.

The twin screen four module slot PHABRIX Rx 2000 has been designed to allow the instrument to be controlled via the two integrated screens which show both instrumentation and video. It also has a rasterized output for multiple instrument representation on a 1920 x 1080 monitor which can be controlled and monitored remotely. It has the addition of twin stereo speakers for monitoring in the bay or OB environment.

The Rx1000 rasterizer has four module slots with 1920 x 1080 HDMI/SDI output for monitoring and control. It also has twin speakers for on-board audio monitoring. Due to the light weight, lower power implementation of the technology, the instruments are ideal for weight and size sensitive installations such as OB trucks, studio editing and broadcast engineering bays.

The Rx500 has the smallest profile of the range with support for up to 8 simultaneous channels within the two module bays provided.

With over 3,000 Sx hand held units in use daily throughout the world, PHABRIX instruments have been accepted by broadcast engineers for their quality, innovation and manufacturing excellence.

PHABRIX products all benefit from a two year warranty and can be obtained through our international distributor network.
