PHABRIX gears up with new features at NAB 2010

PHABRIX will be on two stands at NAB this year, their own stand at N319 and also on stand C8140 supporting LeaderUSA, the Americas distributor for PHABRIX.

PHABRIX has been developing at a pace since the launch of its award winning PHABRIX SxA at IBC 2008. The SxA was the first hand held combined generator, analyser and monitor ready configured for 3G-SDI, HD-SDI and SD-SDI as standard. This innovative product with a focussed broadcast toolset and intuitive ergonomic control appealed to the broadcast engineer who needed a quality instrument designed for SMPTE reference testing and analysis. The innovation encompassed in the SxA was recognised by the industry resulting in the prestigious IABM Peter Wayne Award for design and innovation awarded at IBC 2008. Since then UK based PHABRIX has continued to add to its ground breaking technology with the release of the PHABRIX SxE offering eye and jitter display with measurements on a handheld instrument also supporting SD through to 3G.

Paul Nicholls, PHABRIX sales and marketing manager commented,
‘We knew we had a winner with the PHABRIX SxE when we received so many pre-orders for the product. At around a third of the price of the nearest equivalent testing instrument with 3G-SDI support and automated measurements, the SxE became an instant success with the sale of over 300 units in the first four months. The product continues to gain ground as we move into different international markets. NAB 2010 will act as a benchmark of quality of this instrument and I’m pleased to say our R&D team has upped the game once more with a number of enhancements to the SxE’s already unparallel portable toolset. I hope readers will take a moment to check out the new features.’

PHABRIX's latest product release is the PHABRIX SxD dual link, a multi-format combined generator, analyser and monitor designed for post production, studio, camera and projector testing and measurement at SD-SDI, HD-SDI and 3G-SDI. Similar to the PHABRIX SxA, it substitutes the AES input and output for an additional SDI input and output to support specific dual link standards.

The PHABRIX SxD actually supports over 350 different combinations of formats including the new SMPTE 372M allowing testing for bit-rates of 2.970 Gbit/s, and 2.970/1.001 Gbit/s over two wires able to carry 1080p video. The SxD also offers different colour spaces required for testing including 4:2:2 YUV, 4:4:4 RGB, and 4:4:4 YUV at 10/12 bit. Released in March as the first hand held platform to offer such a complete variety of testing formats, many broadcast manufacturers have adopted the product to fully test their new products in readiness for NAB.

Among other developments showing at NAB this year PHABRIX will present its new video timing function available as a free upgrade across the Sx range. Owners of any Sx instrument will find this function invaluable in a busy broadcast environment or studio where a selection of reference timings can be taken and a suitable ‘mean’ calculated across installed products. Using a ‘macro’ and ‘zoom’ bar slider, an operator can focus in on the exact timing of a product under test, record the value and then add another to check reference points.

PHABRIX will also be showing its new web browser interface with full screen print out representing a huge benefit for engineers running compliance tests and needing printed or digital documentation to support their reports. One of the prominent features of the Sx range is the ability to connect to the instrument via the built in ethernet port enabling the product to auto update software and hardware periodically. Knowing the product’s specific IP address enables it to be used as a web server. Using any standard web browser interface an Sx can now download images of the screen from a PC even if the Sx is many hundreds of kilometers away.

Additionally if the new report option is installed then a full report can be auto configured stamped with the user’s logo producing a complete list of the parameters for the product under test. A screen grab of the appropriate video, waveform, vectorscope, eye pattern or jitter display among many other screens selected can be recorded and auto added into the report ideal for SMPTE compliance testing and maitenance reporting where a printed record is required. The new web browser interface with screen grab control.

With so much on show, PHABRIX looks set to have a great NAB. www.phabrix.com
