Testing SMPTE 2110, ST 2022-7 & 2022-6 IP networks
With both the established SMPTE ST 2022-6, SMPTE 2022-7 and the SMPTE 2110 suite of standards, an entirely new level of test and measurement tools is required. ST 2110 based IP systems employ Precision Time Protocol (PTP) with multiple audio, video and ancillary data flows delivering highly complex interactions between edge devices and switches that you simply do not get with SDI systems.
At this stage the testing of ST 2110 flows with ST 2022-7 protection and PTP is challenging. The big issues are currently around protocol behavior, network jitter, and PTP on these complex networks.
Configuring a large IP facility can be challenging, with tens of thousands of IP addresses to be allocated and managed.
PHABRIX is actively developing both handheld as well as rackmount IP enabled Test and Measurement equipment that supports both ST 2022-6, ST 2022-7 as well as ST 2110 video, audio and ANC IP flows.

The PHABRIX Sx TAG handheld can act as IP line-check devices in much the same way that they are used for SDI applications and can also act as IP to SDI gateways. The more powerful Qx Series of rackmount instruments can be configured for both conventional broadcast operation with a powerful suite of basic IP diagnostics, as well as more sophisticated ‘engineering grade’ analysis that is used for commissioning and debug.
QxL – ADVANCED 25G IP RASTERIZER
For real-time UHD IP workflows on 25G networks, the class leading QxL provides support for HD/3G 2110 and 2022-6 payloads on generic 10G/25G SFP28 interfaces as standard. The QxL is fully 10G/25G IP-enabled, with support for JT-NM TR 1001- 1:2018, ST 2110-20 (video), 2110-30 (PCM) and 2110-31 (AES transport) audio, 2110-40 ANC media flows, all with 2022-7 Seamless IP Protection Switching (SIPS). Independent PTP slaves on both media ports are provided for fully redundant media network operation with AMWA NMOS IS-04 discovery and IS-05 device connection management. The option of UHD payloads, HDR, and IP-MEAS in-field license upgrades means that you can tailor your system to your current needs while retaining full flexibility for the future. SDI BNC and SFP media interfaces are available as a factory fitted option.
Qx – NEXT GENERATION IP ANALYSIS AND MONITORING
If your focus is on a classical SDI based HD facility and would like to future-proof your operation for realtime IP, then the classic Qx will address your needs. With HD/3G SDI as standard, with options for UHD/6G/12G-SDI and SMPTE ST 2110 and ST 2022-6 HD/3G payloads, you have the flexibility to migrate to hybrid SDI/IP or SDR/HDR operation with in-field license upgrades. The IP option supports payloads on native 10G SFP+ interfaces using generic IP SFPs, giving full access to be able to monitor and measure the IP traffic to SMPTE standards. In ST 2110 you can simultaneously analyze ST 2110-10/20/30/31/40 JT-NM tested flows with Class C Audio (up to 80 channels at 125us packet time) all under ST 2022-7 Seamless IP Protection Switching (SIPS) and AMWA NMOS IS-04 discovery and IS-05 device connection management.
CASE STUDY: NEP UK boosts IP and 4K test and measurement capabilities with Qx
PHABRIX has supplied three additional Qx rasterizers to NEP UK’s already extensive inventory for its OB trucks and flypacks, for use at high profile events including Wimbledon and the 2019 Rugby World Cup.
