Creative visualization, analysis and high quality test and measurement monitoring tools
With accelerating requirements in the post production space, facilities need test and measurement tools readily available to closely evaluate every technical element of video and audio.
Post production QC engineers must guarantee the content achieves the creative look that’s been planned, as well as ensuring content adheres to the correct format and regulations intended. It’s important they have the analysis and monitoring tools at hand to review the creative process including advanced picture diagnostic tools and the ability to analyze a variety of differing image formats, whether in SDR, HDR/WCG or SD/HD/UHD.
While offering more engaging and realistic viewing for audiences, HDR and WCG bring additional challenges with respect to the management of video brightness and color space for the industry. With multiple HDR related formats, HLG, PQ, S-Log3 and SR Live, there’s potentially many more conversions to perform, not only from SDR to HDR but also between the various formats. At the same time the look and feel of the SDR and HDR programs have to balance so that the Director is still able to freely cut between sources and tell the story as it unfolds.
To address these issues, an advanced set of visualization, analysis and monitoring tools are required for HDR and WCG enabled facilities, and to test video devices for compliance.
Advanced HDR Analysis
The Qx Series offers an advanced set of visualization, analysis and monitoring tools for HDR and WCG enabled facilities. Its HDR test suite supports the HDR live production formats: HLG, PQ, Slog-3 and SR-Live as well as conventional SDR with both Rec 709 and Rec 2020 color spaces. From experience gained in working with HDR/SDR equipment providers and experimental live HDR productions, we’ve developed a range of native ‘cross mapped’ test patterns to help characterize and de-bug HDR/SDR workflows.
Built-in core video and audio analysis toolsets
All three of the PHABRIX product ranges offer built-in core diagnostic toolsets offering multi-format waveform monitors, vectorscopes and video display for checking color bias and conformity. All the tools needed to monitor or debug a video source are available in just one click on the user-defined instrument display layouts.
Advanced video generation
The Qx Series allows for the generation of a comprehensive set of SDI formats as well as adding support for emerging IP standards (ST 2022-6). Including moving test patterns with up to 32 channels of embedded audio per link or sub-field (up to 128channels on 12G interfaces). The Qx Series also supports additional UHD and 4K SDI formats for a wide range of post-production applications. Extended modes support color formatting across 4:2:2, 4:2:2:4, 4:4:4, 4:4:4:4 at 10 and 12-bits.
CASE STUDY: PHABRIX support HDR trials ahead of BT Sport Ultimate Launch
PHABRIX is pleased to announce it has recently concluded nine months of successful HDR technology trials with BT Sport. PHABRIX supported BT Sport, providing its Qx rasterizers and technical expertise, as they developed and refined their live production workflow for the launch of their new HDR, UHD and Dolby Atmos supported proposition, BT Sport Ultimate. This includes HDR on the BT Sport app for mobile devices.
